MEET SOME OF BACKSTAGE'S REAL-LIFE FAMILIES
We are fortunate to have so many supporters in our Backstage family--and we are also fortunate to have many real-life families who give of their time and their talents. We are excited to introduce you to three of them here.
The Goossen Family
Riley (12) & Peyton (9) first got bitten by the theatre bug when they were cast in our 2015 community production of The Jungle Book. Both have since participated in several Backstage shows and camps. Mom Crystal is also a very active member of the Backstage family, making costumes for our youth productions & serving on our Board of Directors. And dad Derek even helps build Backstage sets.
Peyton did theBackstage proud when she appeared as the first female Tiny Tim in the Denver Center's A Christmas Carol.
The Sanders-Van De Hey Family
Husband and wife Robert Michael Sanders and Megan Van De Hey are professional actors and shared the stage during 2016-17's Billy Elliot (and they said it was great to fun to get to spar as their characters went toe to toe in a verbal jousting match).
No strangers to Backstage, Megan won the Henry Award for Best Supporting Actress for her hilarious turn in Toxic Avenger, & Robert Michael directed both Clarence Darrow & last summer's smash hit The Producers.
"It's been wonderful being welcomed to this beautiful town & the Backstage family & getting to work here together," says Megan.
The Hans Family
Paul (not pictured, because he's having an amazing study abroad experience in Finland!) was the first of the Hans family to get involved with Backstage through a Kidsplay camp. Then his brother Ian (13) and dad Jon joined him in The Music Man.
And by the time Beauty & the Beast rolled around, mom Lisa had gotten in on the act, as well.
"We've met a lot of great people and other theater families through Backstage," says Lisa.
"Theatre is really fun," adds Ian. "It's turned into my biggest passion."
